COVID-19 cases rise to 12,885 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Nov 1, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases rose to 12,885 in Rangpur division as 18 new patients were reported after testing 144 samples at two COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur and Dinajpur on Saturday.

Health officials said the infection rate yesterday stood at 12.50 percent in the division.

“The infection rate continues to decline during the last two and a half months in the division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The district-wise breakup of the 12,885 patients stands at 3,077 in Rangpur, 675 in Panchagarh, 1,160 in Nilphamari, 900 in Lalmonirhat, 940 in Kurigram, 1,250 in Thakurgaon, 3,657 in Dinajpur and 1,226 Gaibandha districts.

Since the beginning, a total of 77,944 collected samples were tested till Saturday, and of them, 12,885 were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of 16.53 percent in the division.

“Meanwhile, the number of recovered patients rose to 11,963 with the healing of 12 more people on Saturday as the average recovery rate is 92.84 percent in the division,” Dr. Siddique said.

The average recovery rate of 92.84 percent is currently over 5.61 times higher than the average infection rate of 16.53 percent in the division.
The 11,963 recovered patients include 2,728 of Rangpur, 633 of Panchagarh, 1,115 of Nilphamari, 880 of Lalmonirhat, 884 of Kurigram, 1,037 of Thakurgaon, 3,504 of Dinajpur and 1,182 of Gaibandha districts.

Talking to BSS today, Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Sultan Ahmed said the number of total fatalities remained steady at 233 in the division where no more deaths were reported on Saturday.

The district-wise break up of the 233 fatalities stands at 52 in Rangpur, 82 in Dinajpur, 24 in Thakurgaon, 21 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 14 in Gaibandha, 16 Panchagarh and nine in Lalmonirhat districts.

“The average casualty rate among the total 12,885 coronavirus infected patients now stands at 1.80 percent in the division,” he said.

Among the total 12,885 COVID-19 infected patients, 58 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 11,963 patients and 233 deaths while 631 remaining in home isolations.

“Since the beginning, a total of 83,165 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 78,341 released and 4,824 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines,” Dr. Ahmed added.

Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Md. Zakir Hossain said the declining COVID-19 infection rate and rising recovery rate are improving the coronavirus situation in Rangpur division in the last two and a half months.

“To further reduce the COVID-19 spread, everyone should wear masks and abide by the health directives to check a probable second wave of spreading of the deadly virus during the winter season,” Hossain suggested.
