Govt gives importance to railway sector : Sujan

MAGURA, Oct 31, 2020 (BSS) – Railways Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan today said the railway sector was once neglected and the present government has given more importance to railways.

“The more developed a country is, the better is its communication system. The development of the country cannot be considered without railways. And for this purpose, development in the railway sector is being considered through planning like a developed country,” he said.

He was speaking at a public meeting organized by the district Awami League in Magura after the inspection of several places from Kamarkhali of Faridpur district to Madhukhali and Magura town as per the alignment of the new broad gauge line construction project.

The minister further mentioned that the government has a plan to establish rail link in every district.

At present 107 railway stations are closed, he said, adding that if the stations are opened through recruitment of people, it will be possible to provide more passenger services.

Regarding the rail line construction project to Magura, he said that a new railway line would be constructed to establish rail connectivity in Magura district.

The minister was accompanied by Presidium Member of Bangladesh Awami League Md Abdur Rahman, Magura lawmaker Saifuzzaman Shikhar, Bangladesh Railway (BR) Director General (DG) Md Shamsuzzaman and several local leaders.
