Rabbi emphasizes protecting mother Hilsha for increasing fish production.

GAIBANDHA, OCT 28, 2020(BSS)- Deputy Speaker of the Jatiya Sangshad Advocate Fazley Rabbi Miah today underscored the need for increasing Hilsha fishes in the river Brahmaputra through protecting mother Hilsha with strong adherence to ban on its catch.

“As the government imposed the ban on Hilsha catching, selling, hoarding and transporting across the country from October 14, the fishermen whose livelihood are fully dependent on catching fishes face troubles for want of food during ban period”, he also said.

Keeping this in view, Rabbi said as the fishermen passes their days and nights in hardship the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina allotted rice under Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) Programme .

The Deputy Speaker said this while addressing a function on VGF rice distribution on the ground of Jumarbari High School among fishermen residing on the bank of the river Brahmaputra at Hondia union of Shaghata upazila of the district as chief guest.

Upazila Chairman Md. Jahangir Kabir, District Fisheries Officer (DFO) Abdud Dayan Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohiuddin Jahangir and President of upazila Awami League Md. Nazmul Huda Dudu were present at the event as special guests.

Later, Deputy Speaker formally inaugurated the VGF rice distribution activity among 620 fishermen of the union and its neighbouring areas .

Each fishermen got 20 kilograms of rice from the government .

DFO Abdud Dayan Dulu in his speeches said as many as 5500 fishermen of four upazilas of the district would get rice under the VGF programme.

A large number of people from all walks of life including political leaders, public representatives, government officials, social workers and journalists were present on the occasion.
