KCC mayor, councilors take oath

DHAKA, July 5, 2018 (BSS)-Newly elected mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) and councilors took oath at a function at Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) here today.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina administered the oath of Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleq while the councilors took oath from Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Engineer Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain.

Senior secretary of the Local Government Division Jafar Ahmed Khan conducted the oath taking ceremony.

The election to Khulna City Corporation was held on May 15, 2018.

Speaking on the occasion, the prime minister urged the newly elected mayor and councilors to work sincerely for the people irrespective of their political and ideological views.

“As you are public representatives, elected from different political parties. So, you have to always think about public welfare,” she said.

Congratulating the newly elected representatives of the KCC, the prime minister said her government believes in equal development of every area. So, every elected representative would get same opportunities from the government for development of his/her area.

Highlighting the steps being taken by the government for development of Khulna, the prime minister said the rail line on Padma Bridge will go up to Mongla. The government is also taking steps for sweet water supply and desalinization of the water in the area.

The prime minister extended thanks to the people of Khulna City for electing the Awami League candidate as mayor of the city.
