Haji Salim’s driver Mizan sent to jail

DHAKA, Oct 28, 2020 (BSS) – A Dhaka court today sent Mizanur Rahman, driver of Dhaka-7 lawmaker Haji Md Salim, to jail in a case filed for assaulting a navy official in the capital’s Dhanmondi area on Sunday night.

After one-day remand, Dhaka’s Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Asaduzzaman Nur passed the order today following an appeal of the case Investigation Officer of keeping Mizan in jail till completing the investigation.

Earlier, on Monday Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Sufian Mohammad Noman passed an order of placing Mizan on one-day remand.

Erfan Salim, son of Dhaka-7 lawmaker Haji Salim, and the driver Mizan allegedly assaulted Lt Wasif Ahmad Khan of Bangladesh Navy in the capital’s Kalabagan signal area in the evening on October 25.

The navy officer filed the case against Erfan, his bodyguard Md Zahid, protocol officer AB Siddique Dipu, driver Mizanur Rahman and 2/3 unidentified persons.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), on October 26, arrested Erfan from their old town ancestral home and seized 38 walkie- talkies, one air gun, one foreign made pistol, five VPS sets, one handcuff, a drone, and seven bottles of foreign liquor, among other things.

RAB Mobile Court on the same day sentenced Erfan and his bodyguard Zahid to a total of one-year imprisonment for keeping illegal foreign liquor and unauthorized walkie-talkies and sent them to the Dhaka Central Jail in Kerniganj.
