JS body for assessing demand of essentials

DHAKA, Oct 27, 2020 (BSS) – Parliamentary standing committee on ministry of commerce today suggested authorities concerned to go for stockpile of essential commodities such as onion, potato assessing the demand six months ahead to keep the market stable.

“Stockpile of essential commodities should be based on demand and supply assessment five to six months before to keep the market stable and price at reasonable levels,” it said after a meeting at Jatiyo Sangsad Bhaban.

Committee chairman Tofail Ahmed, MP chaired the 10th meeting attended by commerce minister Tipu Munshi, MP, Mahmud Us Samad Chowdhury, MP, Tahjib Alam Siddiki, MP, Selim Altaf Jorge, MP and Sultana Ndira, MP, said a press release.

The parliamentary body also passed recommendations to solve any problem regarding essential commodities in future by holding inter-ministerial meeting.

It also laid emphasis on specially increasing local production to meet the demand.

Commerce secretary and officials concerned were present at the meeting.
