DHAKA, Oct 26, 2020 (BSS) – The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB)
president Nazmul Hassan Papon said some new players have been emerged
from the BCB President’s Cup, a thing which was the outcome of the
tournament.

“The positive thing is that the tournament gave the players a
platform to show their mettle and some players grabbed it with both
hands. So we got some new players, who have immense talent and who can
make it big in future,” Papon said during a conversation with the
media people.

Although a number of countries returned to cricket after overcoming
Covid-19 pandemic, the return of Bangladesh to cricket was uncertain.
The Sri Lanka series was postponed at the eleventh hour last
September. Thereafter the BCB decided to organize the President’s Cup
by dividing the cricketers into three teams at that time. The plan is
a resounding success, according to Papon.

With this tournament, the cricketers have been able to return to
competitive cricket after a long six months. Moreover, the three-team
tournament was very competitive.

Several young cricketers hogged the limelight through this
tournament. Young Shoriful Islam and Sumon Khan have performed well in
the pace department. Youngsters like Towhid Ridoy and Irfan Shukkur
have been praised for their batting.

“I want to thank the entire management, who were involved in this
tournament,” the BCB boss told reporters after the final on Sunday.

“It ended very nicely. Of course, the players we regularly expected
to run couldn’t do. However, Mushfiqur did well. Liton Das got runs in
the last match.

The BCB president said, “The positive side is that many newcomers
have done well. Like the way Taskin is back. I thought for a while
that he might not return to the national team. But he did very well.
Rubel has a great tournament. Not only that, we got bowlers like Sumon
Khan.”

“In batting, you can see that Irfan Shukkur has scored runs
consistently. He came and performed in all the matches under a lot of
pressure. Another boy, Towhid Ridoy showed he has great potential. Now
I know him. Mahedi Hasan has good potential as an all-rounder. He also
bats and bowls well. Pace bowling was our biggest weakness. This is
the first time I saw a tournament where the pacers did well.”
