Police recover fake currency notes in city, 6 held

DHAKA, Oct 24, 2020 (BSS) – Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in an overnight raid arrested six people with fake currency notes worth about Taka 85 lakh from various places, including Kotwali and Adabar Police Stations, in the city.

Additional Commissioner of Police (DB) AKM Hafji Akter told journalists that the detainees are Md Mamun, Md Shimu, Kazi Masud Parvez, Md Ruhul Alam, Md Sohail Rana and Md Nazmul Haque.

Police recovered the counterfeit notes worth total TK 56 lakh 60 thousand, 113 counterfeit dollars, two bundles of counterfeit money paper, a laptop, two scanners, a laminator, two printers, 12 tracing plates, 5 rims of counterfeit money printing paper, 8 bottles of different colors of ink for printing counterfeit money, seal with serial number of money and a private car.

He said the detainees had been making counterfeit notes in conjunction with each other for the last 5 to 6 years and selling them at retail and wholesale levels.

The police officer said the gang used to supply and sell counterfeit money through their cohorts in different parts of the country including Dhaka targeting big festivals like Eid and Durga Puja.

Legal actions were taken against him.
