Students should raise voice against climate change

RAJSHAHI, March 29, 2017 (BSS)- Students should raise their voice against climate change for protecting environment and biodiversity from its adverse impact in the region including the vast Barind tract, said educationists and experts.

They viewed that there should have adequate measures of boosting level of knowledge of the students on the issue. All the school, college and university level students need proper knowledge about the importance of biodiversity, natural resource conservation and climate change issues so that they can contribute to this field.

The observation came in an environment Olympiad at Rajshahi University (RU) campus here on Tuesday afternoon.

More than 200 students of the university took part in a 20-minute tricky test on environment related general knowledge of the Olympiad. They also took oath for building clean campus and healthy environment.

The Hunger Project Bangladesh (THPB) and its social action project named ‘Let’s Work for a Safe Environment’ jointly hosted the event in association with British Council’s Active Citizen Programme.

Chairman of RU’s Department of Social Work Prof Sadequl Arefin Matin, Students Adviser Prof Mijanur Rahman, Deputy Chief Veterinary Officer Dr Hemayetul Islam, Deputy Director of Bangladesh Bank Mustafizur Rahman and THPB Area Coordinator Subrata Kumar Paul spoke on the occasion as resource persons.
