National Road Safety Day celebrated in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, Oct 22, 2020 (BSS)- National Road Safety Day-2020 was celebrated in the district as elsewhere in the country today in a befitting manner with a call for driving vehicles carefully to reduce road accidents.

This year’s the theme of the day is: ‘Mujib Borsher Swapath, Sarak Karbo Nirapad”.

To mark the district administration, district Police and Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) jointly arranged a discussion meeting at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) office with Additional District Magistrate Sadequr Rahman in the chair.

DC Abdul Matin addressed the meeting as chief guest and additional Superintendent of Police Abu Khayer, Executive Engineer of Roads and Highways Deartment M. Asaduzzaman and President of Zila Motor Owners Association Quazi Mokbul Hossain, attended it as special guests.

The meeting was also addressed, among others, by chairman of Nirapad Janbahan Chai, (NJC), Advocate Asaduzzaman Sarker Milon, and member secretary of Nirapad sarak chai, district unit SM Biplob Islam and motor sramik leader Abdul Karim while vehicle inspector of BRTA Aminul Islam Khan was the moderator.

The speakers said the road safety issue is very important nowadays as the number of vehicles and its running speed are increasing gradually with the increasing number of passengers.

Celebration of the Day will be able to create more awareness among the drivers, passengers and pedestrians of all sorts of vehicles undoubtedly and it would help them drive the vehicles cautiously to stop the frequent roads accidents, they observed.

DC Abdul Matin said the road accidents are taking place regularly due to the competition of drivers, unskilled drivers, overloading, lake of adequate rest and training, violating traffic rules, and lack of proper implementation of law creating untold sufferings of the victim’s families.

The government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken massive programmes including one-way movement, elevation of the national highways into four lanes, construction of dividers, setting up cautionary sign boards and training programmes for drivers road safety , the DC added.

A large number of people including officials, drivers, helpers, transport workers leaders, and journalists attended the programmes.
