BD only country where journo to get financial help in COVID-19 pandemic –Mamtaz

NETRAKONA, Oct 20, 2020 (BSS) – Chairman of Bangladesh Press Council (BPC) Justice Mohammed Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed today said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina provided financial assistance to all sectors including journalists across the country during COVID-19 pandemic.

“Bangladesh is the lone country in the world where the journalists got financial support directly from the government during the deadly virus outbreak “ he said adding that the present government under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already taken many steps including strengthening of press council for ensuring welfare of the news persons and free flow of information.

Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed said this while addressing a virtual meeting as chief guest with the office bearers of Netrakona Press Club (NPC) from his Segunbagicha office.

BPC arranged the meeting to mark the handing over 40 books on “the liberation war and life and ideals of father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman” to NPC authority.

Chaired by Vice President of NPC Abdul Hannan Ranjan, the meeting was addressed, among others, by Secretary of BPC Shah Alam, NPC General Secretary Shyamolendu Paul, District Correspondent of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha M Faqrul Haque, journalists Haider Jahan Chowdhory, Habibur Rahman, Muklesur Rahman, Alpana Begum and AKM Abdullah.

Highlighting different aspects of life and activities of Bangabandhu, Justice Mamtaz termed Bangabandhu as the best media –friendly leader as he used to love and honour journalists and had high impression on learned and experienced journalists” he said.

“ We all should know the life and ideals of Bangabandhu, because, it is not possible for us to learn the actual history of war of country’s independence without acquainting with the history of father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman” Justice Mamtaz added.
