Hand wash vital to prevent COVID-19

RAJSHAHI, Oct 20, 2020 (BSS) – Public health experts and officials said that many water and airborne diseases and especially the COVID-19 could mostly be prevented through making the people and the children conscious about repetitive hand washing practice.

They said concerted efforts of all government and non-government organisations are indispensable for attaining success and it is the best time to transform the sanitation campaign into a social movement for building a healthy society.

They were addressing a meeting jointly organised by District Administration and Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE) at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office today to mark The National Sanitation Month October and The World Hand Washing Day, 2020.

‘Clean Hands for all’; ‘Sustainable Development: Hygienic Sanitation’ was the main slogan of the discussion.

Additional Commissioner of Rajshahi division Jakir Hossain and DPHE Superintending Engineer Shamim Ahmed addressed the meeting as chief and special guests respectively with Additional Deputy Commissioner Shariful Haque in the chair.

DPHE Executive Engineer Md Rokonuzzaman spoke on the occasion as focal person.

Among others, District Primary Education Officer Abdus Salam, Executive Engineer of Barind Multipurpose Development Authority Muhammad Zinnurine, Executive Engineer of Bangladesh Water Development Board Shafiqul Islam and District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Aminul Haque also spoke.

Jakir Hossain said the hygiene and sanitation campaign should be successful for the sake of keeping the environment free from pollution side by side saving people from being infected with numerous air and water-borne diseases.

He said the school boys and girls are most vulnerable to worm infection and they must be aware about health hygiene and using sanitary latrine together with proper hand washing.

The meeting urged field level government officials and public representatives to engage community and religious leaders at the grassroots in the campaign so that it could be turned into a social movement.
