Monnujan endorses state own jute mills operational beside private ones

KHULNA, OCT 19, 2020 (BSS) – State minister for Labour and Employment Begum Monnujan Sufian, today stressed the need for making state own jute mills operative side by side private ones for restoration of magnificent heritage of jute, the golden fibre of Bangladesh.

“The government has closed only Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC) run jute mills and efforts are on to reopen all closed jute mills under either public private partnership (PPP) venture or leasing system,” the minister said this while distributing cheque and saving certificates among workers those who got retirement and were placed on golden handshake of Platinum Jubilee Jute Mills Limited(PJJM) at its officers club premises as chief guest .

The state minister said it was Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who nationalised heavy industries, banking and Insurance sectors as per his electoral pledged since independent period showing respect and protecting country’s resources in 1971 .

“ But those were forced shut down or transformed into private sector treating those as loss-making organizations shortly after assassination of Bangabandhu in 1975 ,” she said

Monnujan said but Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina reopened all jute mills after come to state power and the labourers are no way responsible for today’s troubles of jute mills.

She accused some dishonest officials and businessmen of embezzling crores of money in the BJMC run jute mills and asserted that present government has tirelessly working to reopen with modernization of the jute mills very soon.

‘Labourers of the closed jute mills have been paid 13 to 27 per cent more money instead of their just dues, the minister said, and none including labour leaders or brokers can swindle the payment as it will directly be deposited to their personal accounts.

Khulna Deputy Commissioner Md Helal hossain presided over the function while Khulna City Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque addressed as special guest.

Additional Divisional Commissioner (Revenue) Subash Chandra Saha, Deputy Inspector General of police , Khulna range Dr Khondokar Mohiuddin, Khulna Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Md Masudur Rahman Bhuiyan, Director of RAB-6 Lieutenant Col. Rowshonul Firoz, Secretary of BJMC AFM Ehteshamul Haque, Superintendent of Police M Shafiullah, Director of Industrial police-6 Md Nazmul Islam, Additional Secretary of Textile and Jute Ministry Md Abu Bakkar Siddiqui, among others, addressed the function.

Later, the state minister distributed cheques amounting to TK 216.28 crore and saving certificates worth TK 214.84 crore among 45 labourers of the mills.
