KHULNA, Oct 18, 2020 (BSS) – The 56th birth anniversary of Sheikh Russell, the youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was observed here today as elsewhere in the country today.
To mark the birth anniversary, a discussion meeting and doa mahfil was held at the Awami League party office at city’s Lower Jessore road today paying rich tribute to Sheikh Russell, said a press release.
Leaders and workers of Awami League and Jubo League also placed floral wreaths on the portraits of Sheikh Russell.
Awami League city unit president and Mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Talukder Abdul Khaleque presided over the discussion meeting.
District AL president and chairman of Khulna Zilla Parishad Sheikh Harun-ur-Rashid, District and City unit AL general secretary advocate Sujit Adhikari and MDA Babul Rana, AL leaders advocate Chishty Sohrab Hossain, Kazi Badsha Mia, advocate Saiful Islam, Mokbul Hossain Mintu, Mahbub Alam Sohag, among others, addressed.
Later, Khulna City unit Jubo League arranged a doa mahfil after Zuhr prayer at Azmeri Jame Mosque at City’s Shankho Market seeking salvation of departed soul of Shaheed Sheikh Russell.
Jubo League leaders and workers also distributed cooked food among the poor and destitute people in front of AL office.
JuboLeague convener Shafiqul Islam Palash, member secretary Shahjalal Sujon, among others, were present.
Besides, Sheikh Russell National Shishu-Kishore Parishad arranged a doa mahfil at Government Model School auditorium in the city.
General Secretary of City unit AL MDA Babul Rana, Jubo League convener Shafiqul Islam Palash, incumbent President and immediate past President of Khulna Union of Journalists (KUJ) Mahbub Alam Sohag and S M Zahid Hossain, among others, attended the function.
