JS body for taking plan to remember freedom fighters forever

DHAKA, Oct 18, 2020 (BSS) – A meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs held here today suggested the concerned authorities to adopt a plan to keep the country’s heroic freedom fighters as memorable as the martyred British soldiers of the Second World War.

Committee members – Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque and Kazi Firoz Rashid were present at the meeting with committee chairman Shahjahan Khan in the chair.

The Income and expenditure of Freedom Fighter Welfare Trust and National Freedom Fighter Council were reviewed at the meeting.

The committee recommended to place the details of income and expenditure of the National Freedom Fighters Council in the next meeting along with the audit report.

The meeting also recommended taking measures to pay the medical expenses of the freedom fighters on monthly basis from the Freedom Fighter Welfare Trust.

It also informed that a proposal has been sent to the Finance Ministry recently to increase the monthly honorarium of the freedom fighters by Tk 8,000 to Tk 20,000 from the fiscal year 2020-21 so that the freedom fighters can lead a prosperous life.

It was recommended to present the details of the recruits at different times in the next meeting and to form a committee to make the organogram of the welfare trust up-to-date.

Among others, secretary of the ministry, heads of different agencies and concerned officials of the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat were present at the meeting.
