1 to die, 2 get life terms for murder in Jamalpur
JAMALPUR, October 18, 2020 (BSS)- A court here today sentenced one person to death and three others to life term imprisonment for killing a motorcycle rider in 2011.
The person who was awarded capital punishment identified as Mahbubur Rahman alias Bulbul, son of Nabab Ali at village Koroitar Khanbari in Islampur Upazila and the life term convicts are Monir, son of Nur Mohammad at village Majhbanda Nangla and Babu, son of Sultan at village Gabindapur Nangla in Melandaha Upazila of the district.
The prosecution story is in brief that that Mahbubur Rahman alias Bulbul hired a rented motorcycle owned by Md Ziaul Haque, 32 son of Md Samiul Haque at village Dharmakura Shantipara in Islampur Upazila on night of October 5, 2011.
But on way Bulbul with his accomplices Monir and Babu strangled motorcycle rider Md Ziaul Haque to death and dumped the body in a paddy field in Melandah Upazila. After killing, the convicts took away the motorcycle and mobile set of Ziaul.
Following the murder, Beauti Begum, wife of Ziaul Haque filed a case with Melandah police station
After investigation police submitted charge sheet against them.
District and Session Judge, Md Zulfikar Ali Khan after examining 14 witnesses and relevant documents found them guilty and handed down death sentence to Mahbubur Rahman alias Bulbul in his absentia and life term imprisonment to Monir and Babu.
Shortly after the killing, Bulbul remained fugitive, Nirmal Chandra Badhra, public prosecutor told BSS.
The court also fined death convict TK 50 thousand and two the other convicts TK 10 thousand each.
