Preparation for Durga Puja on full swing in Manikganj

MANIKGANJ, Oct 18, 2020 (BSS) -All kinds of preparation for celebrating the forthcoming Durga Puja, the largest religious festival for the Hindu community, is going on in full swing in the district.

Manikganj district Puja Udjapon Parishad sources said a total of 463 Puja Mandops have been erected in all seven upazilas including two municipalities in the district this year.

Of them, 87 in Manikganj Sadar upazila including 27 in the Manikganj Municipality, 72 in Singair Upazila including 10 in Singair Municipality, 60 in Saturia upazila, 65 in Ghior Upazila, 38 in Daulatpur upazila, 82 in Shibalaya upazila and 59 in Harirampur upazila.

Anirban Kumar Paul, General Secretary, Manikganj District Puja Udjapon Parishad said due to corona pandemic Hindu pilgrims will visit the puja mandops wearing musk and will maintain social distance to prevent coronavirus infection.

S M Ferdous, Deputy Commissioner of the district in the preparatory meeting of Durga Puja directed the leaders of the all Puja Udjapon Committees to maintain the social distancing properly during the visit of the devotees, compulsory wearing the musk for everybody and ensure the separate entrance and exit for the male and female devotees.

Rifat Rahman Shamim, Superintendent of Police (SP), said all necessary steps will be taken to the law and order during the Durga Puja in the district.

Besides, Hindu men and women are now gathered to markets for buying new dresses for their near and dear ones as well other necessary house hold commodities with the festival will begin from October 22 and will be ended on October 26 with immersion of the images of goddess Durga and other deities.

The government has already allocated half metric tonne of rice for each of the Puja Mandops in all upazilas of the district for celebrating the Durga Puja with festivity.
