562 Puja mandaps to be erected in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, Oct 17, 2020 (BSS) – A total of 562 mandaps would be erected in
all the seven upazilas of the district this year to celebrate the Sharadiya
Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Hindu Community.

Ranajit Bakshi Surja, president of district puja celebration committee
(DPCC), disclosed the information this morning. Of the total mandaps, some 83
have been erected in Sadar upazila, 103 in Sadullapur upazila, 130 in
Sundarganj upazila, 59 in Palashbari upazila, 116 in Gobindaganj upazila, 56
in Shaghata upazila and 15 in Fulchhari upazila, he said.

The five-day long puja would begin from October 22 and conclude on October
26 through the immersion of idols at different water bodies including canal,
pond and rivers, he added.

Preparations for holding the Durga Puja are progressing fast throughout the
district as the commencement of the annual event draws nearer, said Dipak
Kumar Paul, general secretary of the DPCC.

Superintendent of police (SP) Muhammad Towhidul Islam said they were in
vigilance and stern and lawful action would be taken against the persons who
will involve in creating anarchy and trouble during the celebration of Durga
Puja.

Police, ansar and VDP members including gram police would be deployed at
the puja mandaps each and the elite forces RAB would also patrol on the road
to hold the puja here peacefully, the SP added.

Deputy Commissioner Gautam Chandra Pal said they had taken pragmatic
decisions in the preparatory meeting held on October 11 to celebrate the
forthcoming Durga Puja in befitting manner and with religious fervor in the
district.
