109,900 yaba pills seized in Dhaka, Cox’s Bazar

DHAKA, Oct 16, 2020 (BSS) – Customs officials and members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in separate drives seized 109,900 yaba tablets from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka and Cox’s Bazar in last 24 hour hours, said airport and BGB sources.

Dhaka Customs House Deputy Commissioner (Preventive) Mohammad Marufur Rahman told BSS that 38,900 pieces of yaba pills worth Tk1.16 crore were seized from a consignment of 349 cartons of ready-made garments around 10:30am today.

“But none could be arrested . . . A case was filed in the connection under the Customs and Narcotics Act,” he added.

Meanwhile, being informed, a BGB battalion of Teknaf has recovered 71,000 pieces of yaba tablets in a plastic sack worth about Taka 2.13 crore after searching an abandoned bamboo-made house in Lombabill area in Teknaf, said a release this afternoon.

One Syed Alam, 22, son of Abdus Sukur, was arrested from Jamtoly Rohingya Refugee Camp of Ukhiya in Cox’s Bazar in this connection.
