World Food Day being observed in Gaibandha
GAIBANDHA, Oct 16, 2020 (BSS) – The World Food Day is being celebrated in
all the seven upazilas of the district today in a befitting manner.
This year’s theme of the day is “Grow, Nourish, Sustain. Together. Our
actions are our future.”
Marking the day, the district administration and Department of Food and
Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) here jointly chalked out the
elaborate programmes.
A discussion meeting on the importance of the day was held in the morning
at the conference room of deputy commissioner (DC) here with deputy director
(DD) of the DAE Masudur Rahman in the chair.
DC Abdul Matin addressed the meeting as the chief guest.
The meeting was also addressed, among others, by additional police super
Md. Abu Khayer, district food controller Md. Reazur Rahman Razu, district
fisheries officer Abdud Dayan Dulu and district livestock officer Dr. Abdus
Samad.
Masudur Rahman said the Gaibandha has become a food surplus district as
farmers boosted paddy production by applying the latest agriculture
technologies innovated by the agri scientists.
He said the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is also
ensuring quality seed, fertilizer and other agri inputs at farmers’ level to
increase food production.
DC Abdul Matin in his speeches said the government has been continuing the
development spree of the country despite the Covid-19 pandemic as it has
taken all-out measures at the very beginning of this global pandemic.
He also urged all concerned to expedite efforts to ensure food security
and nutritional demand for the people of the country amid the ongoing
pandemic.
A large number of district level officials, political leaders and
journalists attended the programme.
