Hand Washing Day observed in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, OCT 15, 2020 (BSS) – The Globe Hand Washing Day-2020 was
observed in the district today with a call to stop the defecation in open
space and improve sanitation and hygiene systems across the country.

This year’s theme of the day was ‘Hand Hygiene for All.

Marking the day, the department of Public Health and Engineering (DPHE)
and district administration chalked out elaborate programmes in cooperation
with a number of non-government organisations including SKS Foundation, Gana
Unnayan Kendra (GUK), BDRCS, Gaibandha unit, Swiss Red Cross, RDRS
Bangladesh, Friendship, BRAC, ICCO Cooperation, the Netherlands.

Deputy commissioner (DC) Abdul Matin inaugurated a hand washing
demonstration on the premises of District Collectorate Building around 11am.

Later, a discussion was also held at the conference room of the DC
highlighting the importance of National Sanitation Month and Hand Washing Day
with executive engineer of DPHE Md. Rezwan Hossain in the chair.

The meeting was also addressed among others by general secretary of
district Awami League Abu Bakar Siddique, coordinator of GUK Aftab Hossain,
and representative of SKS Fioundation Ashraf Alam.

The speakers in their speeches underscored the need for creating much
awareness among the people particularly chars and river basin dwellers of the
district about the use of sanitary latrines, safe drinking water and
following hygienic rules for a better and disease-free society.

A large number of students, teachers, social workers, NGO activists
including journalists took part in the programmes.
