BGB arrests 3 with 1.4-kg gold in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Oct 15, 2020 (BSS)- Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), in an anti-smuggling drive, arrested three alleged smugglers with 1.4 kilograms of gold in the district on Wednesday.

BGB sources said the arrested persons were identified as Muhammad Alal, 45, son of late Lal Mian, Subrata Karmaker, 27, son of Badal Karmaker and Milon Halder, 28, son of Dinesh Halder.

On a tip-off, a BGB patrol team searched a Chapainawabgonj-bound passenger bus belongs to Green Travels from Dhaka at Belpukur check post and arrested Muhammad Alal around 7.30 pm. Subsequently, the team recovered 12 gold bars weighing around 1.4 kilograms after searching his body.

Based-on his preliminary confessional statement, the BGB team arrested two others from separate places in Chapainawabganj town on charge of their involvement in the gold smuggling incident, said Lt Col Ferdous Ziauddin Mahmud, Commanding Officer of BGB-1 Battalion.

A case was recorded with Belpukur Police Station in this connection and the arrested persons were handed over to police. However, the seized gold bars were deposited with the treasury branch in Rajshahi Deputy Commissioner’s office.
