Maintaining quality in all consumer products stressed

RAJSHAHI, Oct 15, 2020 (BSS) – Maintaining best quality in all consumer products has become crucial to ensure a sound public health through protecting it from various non-contagious diseases as a whole.

In the present context, unhygienic, spurious and substandard consumer products and the food in particular is being adjudged as the breeding point of various non-infectious diseases like cancer, stroke, cardiac arrest and kidney ailments.

To overcome the odd situation, there is no alternative to ensure best practices in the consumer products in every stage of handling, storing, processing, manufacturing and marketing.

The views were expressed at a participatory discussion by some experts and other stakeholders at the conference hall of Regional office of Bangladesh Standard and Testing Institutions (BSTI) on Wednesday.

BSTI hosted the discussion to mark the 51st World Standard Day- 2020. This year’s theme of the day was “Protecting the Planet with Standards”.

Additional Commissioner of Rajshahi division Jakir Hossain addressed the meeting as chief guegt with BSTI Regional Director Khairul Islam was in the chair.

BSTI Deputy Director (Metrology) Rabiul Azim illustrated the significance of the day besides the importance of maintaining quality and best handling practices in the consumer products in his multimedia presentation.

Disseminating his expertise on the theme he highlighted the aspects of ensuring quality and standard everywhere in the civic life.

The Chief Guest Zakir Hossain suggested improving the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of their operations, complying with legislative and regulatory requirements, safeguarding health and protecting the environment.

He called upon BSTI to intensify its market inspection and monitoring activities to tackle adulteration and stop the marketing of fake and substandard products.
