A husband among 3 to die for killing housewife in Khulna

KHULNA, Oct 12, 2020 (BSS)- A court here today sentenced three people including a husband Prasenjit Gayeen to death for killing his wife Tumpa at Dumuria upazila of the district nearly four years back.

The two others convicts who were awarded death sentences are Animesh Gayeen and Biplob Kanti Mandal, Public Prosecutor Enamul Haque told BSS.

The court in addition to the capital punishment , also fined three convicts TK 45,000 each in default to suffer seven years more rigorous imprisonment.

The court also acquitted Subash Gayeen , brother of Prasenjit Gayeen of the charges .

Khulna Session and District Judge Moshiur Rahman Chowdhury handed down the verdict this noon in presence of Animesh Gayeen and Subash Gayeen.

However, two other convicts including Prasenjit Gayeen and Biplob Kanti Mandal had been absconding shortly after the murder .

The persecution story is in brief that the husband in connivance with the accused strangled his wife Tumpa Mandal to death and dumped the body at the Gangrail river at Badurgacha village under Dumuria upazila of the district on October 7, 2016 over family feud.

Police recovered the decomposed body of Tumpa from the river on October 9, two day after the murder .

Samit Mondal, brother of Tumpa, filed a case with Dumuria Police Station in this connection.

Investigation Officer of the case, Sub Inspector Keramot Ali pressed charges and submitted before the court implicating four persons including the victim’s husband on November 25, 2017,

The court examined 26, out of 28 witnesses in the trial and pronounced the verdict , the sources added.
