Meeting for Durga Puja’s smooth celebration held in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, Oct 12, 2020 (BSS) – A meeting for smooth celebration of the Sharadiya Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Hindu Community, has been held at the conference room of deputy commissioner (DC) here.

With DC Abdul Matin in the chair, the yesterday’s meeting discussed elaborately various issues including overall preparatory steps and security measures for holding the forthcoming Durga Puja in the district smoothly.

The leaders of Bangladesh Puja Celebration Parishad, upazila unit, informed the meeting that 582 puja mandaps would be erected in all the seven upazilas this year.

The 5-day long festival will begin on October 22 and conclude on October 26 through the immersion of the idols, they said.

Among the puja mandaps, some 83 will be set up in Sadar upazila, 103 in Sadullapur upazila, 130 in Sundarganj upazila, 59 in Palashbari upazila, 116 in Gobindaganj upazila, 56 in Shaghata upazila and 15 in Fulchhari upazila, they mentioned.

Abdul Matin urged the Hindu community to celebrate the festival with much enthusiasm and religious fervour and assured them of taking necessary steps about security.

Stern and lawful action would be taken against the persons who would be involved in creating anarchy and trouble at the time of puja, he also said.

The meeting was also addressed, among others, by Sadar upazila parshad chairman Shah Sarwar Kabir, Sadullapur upazila parishad chairman Shahriar Khan Biplob, president of district puja celebration parishad Ranajit Bakshi Surjo, its general secretary Dipak Kumar Paul, president of sadar upazila puja celebration parishad Sujon Proshad and president of sundarganj upazila puja celebration parishad Nemai Bhattacharja.
