Harvesting of short-duration Aman paddy begins in Panchagarh

PANCHAGARH, Oct 11, 2020 (BSS)- Harvesting of short-duration Aman paddy–Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI-75)– has begun in Debiganj upazila of the district.

Debiganj Agriculture Department has given a demonstration plot on five acres of land in Dandapal union for Aman seed production under the seed production, preservation and distribution programme.

In this regard, a farmer field day on BARI-75 paddy harvesting was held here today. Upazila Agriculture Officer Samim Ikbal attended the field day programme and cutting paddy as the chief guest.

He said, BARI -75 Aman paddy is a short duration variety which harvesting tenure 70 to 80 days from the transplanting. After cutting the paddy, farmers can plant other crops on the same land, he added.

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) in Panchagarh office said about 99,695 hectares of land have been brought under Aman cultivation with the production target of 3,26,644 tonnes of food grains.

Farmers and the DAE of Panchagarh district are expecting bumper Aman production this year as the climate condition was conducive. Now the paddy field is spreading green adorn.

Deputy Director of the DAE of Panchagarh Md Mizanur Rahman told BSS this year the weather condition was good for Aman . If the weather will remain good till harvesting then the farmers will get bumper Aman production, he said.

DAE has disbursed quality Aman seeds, fertilizers and other agri-inputs among the farmers at free of cost. Besides, different commercial banks including Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank and NGOs have disbursed short-term easy loans among the farmers for boosting production.
