2 killed in Cox’s Bazar tourist bus accident

COX’S BAZAR, Oct 11, 2020 (BSS)- Two passengers of a tourist bus were killed and 10 others injured in a road accident in Islamabad Waher Para area of Eidgaon under Sadar upazila here early today.

The deceased were identified as Mohammad Murad, 30, and Kala Bhandari, 40, of Begumganj upazila in Noakhali district.

“The accident took place on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar Highway around 5am when a bus carrying tourists from Noakhali to Cox’s Bazar fell into a ditch as its driver lost control over the steering,” said Morshedur Rahman Chowdhury, in-charge of Chakaria Malumghat Highway Police Outpost.

The bus got stuck in an electric pole and its front part was completely twisted, he said, adding “Murad died on the spot while Bhandari breathed his last on his way to the hospital.”

The injured were rescued by locals and sent to nearby hospitals. Identities of the injured persons could not be known immediately.

The bus was taken to police custody after rescuing from the spot, said the police officials.
