Hearing of DU student rape case adjourned till Oct 14

DHAKA, Oct 11, 2020 (BSS) – A special tribunal here today adjourned till October 14 the hearing of a case lodged over the rape of a Dhaka University student in the capital’s Kurmitola area.

Judge Begum Mosammat Kamrunnahar of Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-7 passed the order, allowing a time plea of the prosecution, public prosecutor Farhana Ahmed told BSS.

Today was set for examining new prosecution witnesses, but the investigation officer of the case failed to appear before the court as he is suffering from Coronavirus, making the prosecution to plea for time.

The court on August 26 framed charge against sole accused Majnu in the case.

Earlier, Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) filed charge-sheet in the case on March 16, making a total 16 people as witnesses.

The student of Dhaka University was raped on the evening of January 5, and her father filed the case with Cantonment Police Station the next day.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on January 7 managed to detain the culprit Majnu and the victim too later identified him.
