Police officer shot dead, 2 patrol officers injured in Thailand’s restive south

BANGKOK, Oct 9, 2020 (BSS/XINHUA) – A police officer was shot dead and two patrol officers injured in an attack on Friday morning in Thailand’s deep south of Pattani.

The victims were responsible for providing security for teachers.

Unknown gunmen ambushed the teacher protection team travelling on motorcycles, said Pol. Capt Veerasak Suwannakhom, deputy investigation chief for Sai Buri district in Pattani Province.

The two patrol officers who were shot were immediately rushed to hospital. Shortly afterwards, a bomb exploded nearby, killing a police officer.

Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha ordered security agencies including the Internal Security Operations Command to find the culprits.
