Human-chain formed protesting violence against women

DHAKA, Oct 8, 2020 (BSS) – Dhaka University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) today formed a human-chain protesting against the violence against women and girls, including rape and tortures.

The DU teachers demanded speedy trial of the rape cases and exemplary punishment for those, who committed heinous acts against women.

The human chain was held at the Aparajeyo Bangla sculpture of Dhaka University (DU) campus.

DUTA general secretary Nizamul Hoque Bhuiyan conducted the protest programme while acting president Md. Lutfor Rahaman along with 50 other teachers of various faculties attended the human chain.

While addressing the human chain, DUTA General Secretary Prof Nizamul Hoque Bhuiyan urged the government to add moral education in the curriculum alongside punishing rapists.

“Teachers have to take the responsibility for building students with developing a sense of moral values. We don’t want to see any more rape incidents, ” he added.

Professor Zia Rahman of Criminology department, Professor Robaet Ferdous of Mass Communication and Journalism, Professor Abul Monsur Ahmed, Dr Zeenat Huda, among others, were also present in the human-chain.
