Language movement veteran Halima Khatun passes away

DHAKA, July 3, 2018 (BSS) – Halima Khatun, a language movement veteran and litterateur, died of old-age complications at a city hospital this afternoon.

She was 85, said a cultural affairs ministry press release.

Halima Khatun had been suffering from heart and kidney diseases for a long time.

She is survived by only daughter reciter Progga laboni and a host of relatives and admirers.

Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor today expressed profound shock at the death of Halima Khatun.

In a message of condolence, the minister recalled the contributions of Halima Khatun to the Language Movement in 1952 and said Bangali nation will remember her forever.

Noor prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
