Speaker stresses farmer-friendly policy in ensuring food security
Dhaka, 6 October 2020 (BSS) – Speaker of the Parliament Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury today said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s farmer-friendly policy has played an effective role in ensuring food and nutrition security in the country.
“Due to the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, there is no food shortage as food and nutrition have been ensured even in the midst of global epidemic COVID-19,” she said while participating in the second governing council virtual meeting.
Future Earth South Asia Regional Office as a member of the governing council has organised the press conference, said a press release.
To ensure food and nutrition security, the government has implemented a second investment plan for the period 2017-2020. To this end, many important laws, including the Food Security Act 2013, have been passed in the Parliament, which are contributing to the development of the agricultural sector and ensuring food security.
The speaker noted that such initiatives by the Future Earth South Asia Regional Office would play an effective role in ensuring food and nutrition security.
Dr Chaudhury said the government is working to improve the lot of farmers and ensure food security in the country.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has ensured the participation of women in the ‘My Home, My Farm’ project to make the wheel of the rural economy more active.
