Govt to set up help centres for persons with neuro disabilities

DHAKA, Oct 6, 2020 (BSS) – Mentioning that people with neuro disabilities need more care than people with other disabilities, including cerebral palsy, Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed today informed that the government has a plan to set up services as well as help centres at district and upazila levels for these types of challenged people.

The minister said this while virtually addressing a discussion marking the ‘World Cerebral Palsy Day’ organised by the Neuro-Developmental Disability Protection Trust (NDD Trust).

State Minister for Social Welfare Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru and Secretary of the Ministry Mohammad Zainul Bari attended the programme as special guests with NDD Trust Chairperson Prof. Dr. Md. Golam Rabbani in the chair.

The minister said, “The present government is friendly towards people with disabilities……We are committed to bring challenged people into the mainstream of society. Everyone must work together to implement this pledge.”

The minister further said the government has formulated ‘Integrated Special Education Policy 2019 on Disability’ for the development of persons with disabilities, preparing guidelines, training for special school teachers and development for special education curricula.

The Rehabilitation Council Act 2018 has been enacted with the aim to control and enhance the skills of autism and NDD related professionals.

“Equal access to education, treatment and employment for persons with disabilities will be ensured,” he continued.

Later, awards were given to meritorious students and entrepreneurs with cerebral palsy.
