632 Durga Puja ‘mandaps’ in Jashore this year

JASHORE, Oct 6, 2020 (BSS)- A great enthusiasm is now being noticed among the Hindu Community at different places in eight upazilas of the district in connection with the five-day long Durga Puja, two weeks ago of the festival.

Preparation for celebrating the forthcoming Durga Puja, the largest religious festival for the Hindu community, is going on in full swing in the district.

District puja udjapon committee secretary Jogesh Chandra Dutta said almost 60 percent works of the idols had already been completed and all the works would be completed within next twelve days. Due to corona pandemic Hindu pilgrims will visit the puja mondaps wearing musk and will maintain social distance to prevent coronavirus infection he said.

Sources said Durga puja will be held at 632 mandaps in Jashore sadar, Abhaynagar Keshabpur, Monirampur, Bagherpara, Jhikorgacha, Chaugacha and Sharsha upazilas under the district this year.

Of the mandaps, 129 mandaps erected in Sadar upazila,122 mandaps erected in Abhaynagar upazila, 91 mandaps erected in Keshabpur upazila, 89 mandaps erected in Monirampur upazila, 83 mandaps erected in Bagherpara upazila, 44 mandaps erected in Jhikorgacha upazila, 40 mandaps erected in Chaugacha upazila and 34 mandaps erected in Sharsha upazila. Admistration was taking special security measures for ensuring safe,secured and peaceful celebrations of the puja festival.

Jashore police super Mohammad Ashraf Hossen said they have been under taken stringent security measures for smooth holding of the puja all over the district.

Besides, Hindu men and women are now gathered to markets to buying new dresses for their near and dear ones as well other necessary house hold commodities with the festival will begin from October 22 and ended on October 26 with immersion of the images of goddess Durga and other deities.
