National Girl Child Day tomorrow

DHAKA, Oct 5, 2020 (BSS) – National Girl Child Day-2020 will be observed tomorrow across the country with the theme “We all are vocal, the world will be equal”, aiming at creating mass awareness for ensuring empowerment of girl children in the society.

President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today issued separate messages greeting the girl children on the occasion.

In his message, the President said, “The girl children of today are the women of future. Therefore, it is our responsibility to ensure rights and security of every girl child.”

Noting that the present government is very much sincere for the development of the girl children, Hamid said different initiatives have been taken for the welfare of the girl children, especially to ensure education, health and nutrition for them.

He called upon all, including private institutions, society and families, to come forward to guarantee overall security and development of girl children.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in her message, said this year’s theme of the day “We all are vocal, the world will be equal” has been time befitting in the context of global pandemic coronavirus and has added a new dimension for the country.

The Prime Minister said the Awami League government is relentlessly working to ensure empowerment of women and girl children and stop all sorts of violence and discriminations against them.

“We are implementing various programmes for the welfare of girl children, including free education, stipend, free textbooks and increasing number of female teachers,” she said.

Due to the government’s pragmatic measures, women literacy rate has increased and rates of child marriage and dowry have been declined remarkably, Sheikh Hasina said.

She added: “Our women are now joining income generating jobs being educated and taking different skills development trainings. They are setting up instances of success in the country’s sports arena.”

The Prime Minister hoped that if rights of the girl children or environment of gender equity can be ensured, they would be able to play a vital role in building a ‘Sonar Bangla’ as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by implementing the ‘Vision-2021’ and ‘Vision-2041’.

The President and Prime Minister wished a success of all the programmes marking the National Girl Child Day 2020.
