Stage is set to celebrate Khulna Durga Puja in 982 Puja pandels

KHULNA, Oct 4, 2020 (BSS) – Brisk preparations are afoot to celebrate the sacred Durga Puja, the largest religious festival of the Hindus in the city as elsewhere in the district.

The five-day Sharadiya Utsab will begin on October 22 and conclude on October 26 with the immersion of idols Durga.

This year, Durga Puja will be celebrated in 982 mandaps in the city and district maintaining social distance and health safety guide lines, set up by the government.

Khulna district administration organized a virtual meeting today at the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) conference room to make Durga Puja celebration a total success.

Khulna Deputy Commissioner Md Helal Hossain presided over the meeting while government officials, law enforcing agencies, Upazila Nirbahi Officers, leaders of city and district units Puja Udjapon Committee joined the virtual meeting.

DC said disinfectants, hand wash, sanitizers, thermal scanner machines will be set up at all entrances of Puja premises in coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19).

Devotees have been asked to maintain social distance and health guidelines set up by the government.

Adequate security measures will be taken before and after the Puja, he said, adding that close circuit cameras will be installed in all puja pandels.

The DC also asked to install fire extinguishers in all Puja Mandaps saying holding of rallies will however be prohibited this year.

Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) and Khulna District Police administration have separately taken adequate security measures for smooth celebration of Durga Puja, he added.

General Secretary of City Unit Puja Udjapon Parisad Prashanta Kumar Kundu told BSS that a total of 136 puja mandaps will be set up in the city while 846 Puja mandaps will be set up in all nine upazilas of the district this year.
