COVID-19 cases hit 21,936 in Khulna division, 19,955 cured

KHULNA, Oct 3, 2020 (BSS) – With detection of 40 more positive cases in all ten districts of the division on Friday, the total number of COVID-19 infected patients now hit 21,940 as 19,955 have been cured from the lethal virus infection.

“The recovery rate now stands at 90.90 percent ,” Assistant Director (Health) for Khulna division Dr. Ferdousi Akhter told BSS, adding that the total number of COVID-19 patients rose to 21,955 with 40 new positive cases were reported after testing 126 samples at the Khulna Medical College laboratory and others two respective COVID-19 laboratories in the division in the last 24 hours till today’s noon.

Of the total new positive cases, the highest 12 were detected in Khulna followed by 10 in Jashore, seven in Jhenaidah, three in Kushtia, two each in Satkhira, Meherpur and Chuadanga and one in Bagerhat in the division.

With the new detected cases, the district-wise break-up of the patients now stands at 6,397 in Khulna, 3,928 in Jashore, 3,281in Kushtia, 1,937 in Jhenaidah, 1,434 in Chuadanga, 1,339 in Narail, 1,100 in Satkhira, 995 in Bagerhat, 911 in Magura and 614 in Meherpur, Dr Ferdousi added.

“Among the total 21,936 coronavirus infected persons, 2,371 are undergoing treatment at isolation units of different hospitals as 19,955 have recovered and 380 died while the rest are undergoing treatment in isolation at their respective homes in the division”, she continued.

Talking to BSS today, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Rasheda Sultana said the number of total fatalities stands at 380 in the division with no more deaths was reported in Bagerhat on Friday.

The district-wise break-up of the fatalities stands at 96 in Khulna, 71 in Kushtia, 46 in Jashore, 33 in Jhenaidah, 32 in Chuadanga, 30 in Satkhira, 24 in Bagerhat, 20 in Narail,15 in Meherpur and 13 in Magura under the division.

“The average casualty rate among all 21,936 COVID-19 positive cases now stands at over 1.73 percent in the division,” she mentioned.

On the other hand, a total of 75 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while others 65 were released in all ten districts of the division over the last 24 hours till 12 noon today.

A total of 60,137 people had, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 to prevent community transmission of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Of them, 58,711 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their respective 14-day quarantine period and 2,371 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantine in the division.
