Rajshahi Airport will be an int’l one in future: Shahjahan Kamal
RAJSHAHI, July 3, 2018 (BSS)- Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister AKM Shahjahan Kamal, MP, today said Shahmukhdum Airport in Rajshahi will be an international one in future in aspects of the gradually mounting demand.
“We have already started implementing necessary infrastructure development works in the airport to turn it into a full-fledged domestic one,” he said this while addressing a press conference here as the chief guest.
District administration organized the conference titled “Expansion and Development of Shahmukhdum Airport” at its conference hall.
Prior to the press conference, the minister also addressed a review meeting with public representatives, members of the civil society and high officials of Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) on the same issue.
The meeting was also addressed, among others, by Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, Engineer Enamul Haque, MP, Akhter Jahan, MP, CAAB Chairman Air Vice Martial Nayeem Hassan and its Member Air Commodore Mustafizur Rahman, Chief Engineer Sudhenda Bikash Goswami and Superintending Engineer Shahidul Afroj with Deputy Commissioner SM Abdul Kader in the chair.
The minister told the journalists that development works of around Taka 12 crore were implemented in Rajshahi Airport in last 2017-18 financial year. “We are going to submit a project to the government to make the airport fit for handling cargo services for export and import,” he added.
Apart from, we have undertaken a Taka 55-crore development works in the airport during the current 2018-19 fiscal year. All the construction works of runway, taxiway and site strip development will be done according to the standard of International Civil Aviation Organization.
Fazley Hossain Badsha said if Rajshahi Airport was upgraded to international standard various agro-products like mango, betel leaf and fish could be exported to various foreign countries including the Middle East nations from here directly.
