US COVID-19 cases surpass 7.3 mln: Johns Hopkins University

NEW YORK, Oct 3, 2020 (BSS/XINHUA) – The total number of COVID-19 cases in the United States surpassed 7.3 million on Friday, according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University.

U.S. COVID-19 case count rose to 7,303,914, with the national death toll reaching 208,304, as of 2:23 p.m. local time (1823 GMT), according to the CSSE.

California reported 823,264 cases, the highest state-level caseload. Texas and Florida both topped 700,000 cases, followed by New York state with more than 460,000 cases.

Other states with over 200,000 cases include Georgia, Illinois, Arizona, North Carolina and New Jersey, according to the CSSE.

U.S. COVID-19 cases topped 7 million on Sept. 25.

By far, the United States remains the world’s worst-hit nation, with the most cases and deaths, accounting for more than one fifth of the global caseload and death toll, respectively.
