COVID-19 cases reach 21,896 in Khulna division, 19,911 cured

KHULNA, Oct 2, 2020 (BSS) – With detection of 41 more positive cases in all ten districts of the division on Thursday, the total number of COVID-19 infected patients now reached 21,896 as 19,911 have been cured from the lethal virus infection.

“The recovery rate now stands at 90.93 percent,” Assistant Director (Health) for Khulna division Dr. Ferdousi Akhter told BSS, adding that the total number of COVID-19 patients rose to 21,896 with 41 new positive cases were reported after testing 136 samples at the Khulna Medical College Labratory and others two respective COVID-19 laboratories in Khulna division in the last 24 hours till today’s noon.

Of the total new positive cases, the highest 13 were detected in Jashore followed by eight in Khulna, five each in Chuadanga and Kustia, three each in Jhenidah and Narail, one each in Bagerhat, Magura, Meherpur and Satkhira in the division.

With the new detected cases, the district-wise break-up of the patients now stands at 6,385 are in Khulna, 3,918 in Jashore, 3,278 in Kushtia, 1,930 in Jhenaidah, 1,432 in Chuadanga, 1,339 in Narail, 1,098 in Satkhira, 994 in Bagerhat, 910 in Magura and 612 in Meherpur, she added.

“Among the total 21,896 coronavirus infected persons, 2,360 are undergoing treatment at isolation units of different hospitals as 19,911 have recovered and 380 died while the rest are undergoing treatment in isolation at their respective homes in the division”, Dr. Ferdousi continued.

Talking to BSS today, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Rasheda Sultana said the number of total fatalities stands to 380 in the division with one more death was reported in Bagerhat on Thursday.

The district-wise break-up of the fatalities stands 380 on Thursday. The break-up now at 96 in Khulna, 71 in Kushtia, 46 in Jashore, 33 in Jhenaidah, 32 in Chuadanga, , 30 in Satkhira, 24 in Bagerhat, 20 in Narail,15 in Meherpur and 13 in Magura under the division.

“The average casualty rate among all 21,896 COVID-19 positive cases now stands at over 1.74 percent in the division,” she mentioned.

On the other hand, a total of 73 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while others 78 were released in all ten districts of the division over the last 24 hours till 12 noon today.

A total of 60,062 people had, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 to prevent community transmission of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Of them, 58,646 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their respective 14-day quarantine period and 2,360 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantine in the division.
