Hasan urges all to stand against conspiracy to destroy communal harmony

DHAKA, Oct 01, 2020 (BSS)- Describing Bangladesh as a unique example of communal harmony in the world, Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today urged all to be vigilant about the conspiracy to destroy this harmony.

“Religion is for individuals while festivals for all. However, attempts and conspiracies are still going on at home and abroad to destroy the communal harmony of the country. Everyone should be careful about this,” he said.

He was speaking at a meeting and lantern festival as the chief guest at the International Buddhist Monastery at Merul Badda in the capital on the occasion of Pravarana Purnima, the second largest religious festival of the Buddhist community.

The information minister greeted all Buddhists on the occasion of Pravarana Purnima and wished peace and prosperity to the people of the country.

With the principal of the International Buddhist Monastery Darmamitro Mohathero in the chair, the function was attended, among others, by Office Secretary of Awami League Central Committee and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s special assistant Barrister Biplob Barua as special guest.

Hasan said Bangladesh has become an independent state under the leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with the aim of coming out of communal Pakistan and building a non-communal Bangladesh.

“That is the goal of the liberation war. Our freedom has been achieved in exchange of the bloods of people of all religions,” he added.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is a symbol of secularism and development-prosperity and under her leadership, Bangladesh is a unique example of inter-religious harmony in the world today, he said, adding that Biplob Barua has been appointed as her(the premier) special assistant and party office secretary, a very unique example of her inter-religious harmony as earlier, no Buddhist personality had been a special assistant to the prime minister.

International Buddhist Monastery Executive President Ashok Barua, Bangladesh Buddhist Federation President Dibyendu Bikash Chowdhury Barua , General Secretary Sunandapriya Barua, Buddhist Religious Welfare Trust Vice-Chairman Supta Voshan Barua, Badda 21 Number Ward Councilor Masum Gani Taposh and Badda Thana Awami League General Secretary Jahangir Alam also spoke on the occasion.
