KDA embarks on TK 1,057.62-crore uplift projects

KHULNA, Oct 01, 2020 (BSS) – Khulna Development Authority (KDA) is implementing four development projects at a cost of TK 1057.52 crore for infrastructure development and improving life and livelihood condition of Khulna city dwellers.

Chairman of KDA Brigadier General Mukim Sarker disclosed this today at a view exchange meeting with journalists and different professional bodies, civil society leaders on development activities for the 2020-2021 fiscal year (FY) at KDA auditorium in the city.

Speaking about the projects, KDA Chairman said a project for Khulna Shipyard road- widening and development from Rupsha Traffic intersection to Hazrat Khan Jahan Ali bridge is being implemented with an expenditure of TK 250 crore.

He said, the project includes construction of 3.78 km bituminous road carpeting, 7.56 km KCC drain with common duct, three bridge, culvert and sluice gates, 3,780-meter water, electricity and gas supply lines each along the four-lane road.

“ The implementation works of the projects has however been delayed for four months for ongoing COVID-19 pandemic’ , he said adding that the KDA is also constructing another 10.1-km Satkhira Road and three link roads connecting city bypass road at a cost of around TK 394.67 crore.

“The 2.5 km four lane is being implemented from Nirala residential area to city bypass road in addition to construction of 4.9 km two lanes from Gallyamari to Rayer Mahal and the 2.7 km two lanes from Bastuhara link road to Arongghata road,” he said.

The road will have 2020 meter KCC drain and 19 culverts, one bridge and 2.5 km divider along with installations of 5,040 meter water, power, gas and telephone lines.

“Ahsanabad Residential Area Development Project, having 730 residential and commercial plots at a cost of TK 269.43 is nearing completion,” he said adding that the plots are expected to be handed over to owners by next years.

The Chairman said the project will have bituminous carpeting road, KCC drain, mosque and temple, secondary transfer electricity station(STS), playground, lake, police outpost, post office, clinic, kitchen market, shopping mall and water supply

“We have already acquired 100 percent acres of land under Chalk Ahsankhali Mouja” KDA chairman said, adding that the project has begun from July 2012 and expected to be completed on June 2021.

He said KDA is also implementing another project “KDA Rest House” near the KDA staff quarter in the city that began from January 13 and will be completed by December 2020 with an expenditure of TK 7.73 crore .

At present, there are more five projects are on the pipeline at a cost of TK 3,500 crore.

‘Of the project, Sheikh Russel Civic Center will be set up to attract more visitors . KDA has a plan to formulate combined mega plan after evaluating Khulna and Mongla master plan to construct an overpass on Fulbari Railway crossing, modernization of KDA inter-district bus terminal and construction of a road from Barakpur to Chandanimahal’, he said

“We are also going to establish “Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Square”, he added.

KDA chief engineer Sabirul Alam, Secretary Sahinur Rahman, Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Chief Planning Officer Amirul Zabbar, President of New Market Owners Association Abdul Gaffar Biswas, Khulna Press Club President and General Secretary S M Nazrul Islam and Mamun Reza, President of New Market Owners Association Gaffar Biswas, among others, attended the meeting.
