RAB arrests fugitive accused in 55 cases

DHAKA, Oct 01, 2020 (BSS) – Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), in an overnight drive, arrested two persons, including a fugitive accused in 55 cases, in capital’s Rupnagar area today.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) of RAB-4 Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury told BSS that the anti-crime elite force arrested the owner of Nasim Real Estate Md Imam Hossain Nasim, 60, a fugitive accused in 55 cases, and his accomplice and third wife Halima Akhter Salma, 32, from Rupnagar area.

During the drive, the RAB also recovered a 6.75 mm foreign pistol, a magazine, three rounds of bullets, counterfeit cash worth Taka 1.35 lakh, 1,400 pieces of yaba, two bottles of foreign liquor, four walkie-talkie sets, six passports, cheque books of 36 banks and 32 mobile Subscriber Identity Module (SIMs) from their possessions, he added.

The RAB official said the notorious accused Nasim worked as a contractor from 1978 to 1986. But since 2002, he has been using fraudulent tactics and introduced himself as the owner of the so-called Nasim Real Estate Company.

In the name of constructing a residential building, Nasim extracted Taka about 300 crore from 5,000 ordinary people by signing fake agreement papers for selling apartments to them, it is found in the investigation.

Nasim used to use 32 anonymous SIM cards at different times and subsequently he went out of the reach of the victims of these scams.

Meanwhile, the investigators found some 16 companies owned by Nasim, said a press release.

These include: Nasim Real Estate Ltd, Nasim Developer Ltd, Nasim Agro Food Ltd, Nasim Bazar, SB Foundation, Dr. Belayet Hossain Medical College and Hospital, Nasim Parcel and Courier Service, Weekly Building Finance, Nasim Ship Builders, Nasim Engineering and Consultancy, Nasim Trading Ltd, Sahana Eye Hospital, Bangla News 18, Nasim Drinking Water, Nasim Refined Sugar and Nasim Beverage.

Four more cases are underway against Nasim, the RAB official added.
