Special tracker attachment on mobile phones for women’s safety stressed

DHAKA, Sept 30, 2020 (BSS) – Bangladesh Mobile Phone Consumers Association has called for the attachment of special trackers on mobile phones for the safety of women.

President of Bangladesh Mobile Phone Subscribers Association Mohiuddin Ahmed today sent an e-mail to Brigadier General (Retd.) SM Farhad, General Secretary, Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh.

Besides, a copy of the letter has been sent to the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) and CEOs of all operators.

The letter from the Bangladesh Mobile Phone Subscribers Association said, many developed countries, including the United States, have already installed special technology apps and trackers on mobile phones to prevent rape and violence against women. In some countries, handset devices are equipped with a pepper spray system.

“We are not in favor of pepper spray in the interest of national security and prevention of abuse. We want every operator to have a special apps-tracker or one-digit free calling system for the safety of their customers”, it added.

In this case, if a woman is subjected to torture or rape, if she uses those apps or trackers, the information including location will be automatically sent to the national 999 or the security forces about that woman.

It can get a lot of relief from women torture and rape.
