1 student sentenced to death, 5 life terms for killing a fellow in Khulna

KHULNA, Sept 30, 2020 (BSS) – A Khulna court on Wednesday sentenced a student to death and five others to life terms imprisonment for killing their classmate in Khalishpur Platinum Jute Mills School a decade ago .

The death sentence awarded convict is Mohammad Rocky and five persons who were awarded life terms imprisonment are Nazrul, Robiul, Al-Amin, Milon and Rajib Howlader, all were students of class nine of the school .

The court also fined all convicts TK 20,000 each and however, acquitted Ibrahim and Hasan of the charges.

S M Ashiqur Rahman of Additional Metropolitan and Session Judge Court handed down the verdict in presence of Rocky, Nazrul and Al-Amin after examining 16 witlessness of the murder case, Advocate Mominul Islam, lawyer of the litigant told BSS today.

The prosecution story is in brief that the convicts attacked their classmate Bappy with lethal weapon over previous enmity when Bappy was gossiping with his friend Razu at the Platinim School ground in the evening on October 10, 2010.

The injured Razu managed to flee leaving behind his friend Bappy in critical condition.

Bappy was rushed to Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) where he named the persons involved in the killing to the law enforcers before he succumbed to injuries around 11 pm on the same night .

His elder brother Hafizur Rahman filed a case against eight criminals with Khalishpur Police Station on the following day.

Police later arrested three accused of whom Rocky and Nazrul gave 164 confessional statement before the magistrate , said Public Prosecutor Kazi Sabbir Ahmed .

However , three others have been absconding soon after the murder .

On March 31, 2012, police submitted charge sheeted to the Metropolitan magistrate Court accusing eight persons of the murder.
