Healed COVID-19 patients’ number cross 10,600 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Sept 28, 2020 (BSS) – The number of healed coronavirus (COVID-19) patients has crossed the 10,600 mark in Rangpur division where the infection rate continues declining and recovery rate increasing consistently in the last four weeks.

Health officials said 46 more COVID-19 patients recovered on Monday in the division raising their number to 10,601 against a total of 11,892 infected people.

“The recovery rate of COVID-19 infected patients now stands at 89.14 percent in the division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The 10,601 recovered COVID-19 patients include 2,458 of Rangpur, 556 of Panchagarh, 990 of Nilphamari, 784 of Lalmonirhat, 816 of Kurigram, 784 of Thakurgaon, 3,182 of Dinajpur and 1,031 of Gaibandha districts in the division.

Meanwhile, 28 new COVID-19 positive cases were reported after testing 376 collected samples at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur division on Sunday raising the number of infected patients to 11,892 in the division.

“The district-wise break up of the 11,892 patients stands at 2,813 in Rangpur, 610 in Panchagarh, 1,054 in Nilphamari, 854 in Lalmonirhat, 901 in Kurigram, 1,120 in Thakurgaon, 3,374 in Dinajpur and 1,166 Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddiqui said. Since the beginning, a total of 68,395 collected samples of Rangpur division till Sunday, and of them, 11,892 were found COVID-19 positive with an infection rate of 17.38 percent.

“The average COVID-19 infection rate stands at 17.38 percent which is about 5.13 times less than the recovery rate of 89.14 percent in the division,” he added.

Talking to BSS today, Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Sultan Ahmed said the total number of fatalities remained steady at 212 in Rangpur division with no more death reported from anywhere on Sunday.

The district-wise break up of the 212 fatalities stands at 48 in Rangpur, 72 in Dinajpur, 20 each in Thakurgaon and Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 14 each in Gaibandha and Panchagarh and nine in Lalmonirhat districts.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.78 percent in the division,” he said.

Among the total 11,892 COVID-19 infected patients, 97 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 10,601 patients and 212 deaths while 982 remaining in home isolations.

“A total of 79,220 people were put in quarantines since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak in Rangpur division, and among them, 74,891 have so far been released and 4,329 are remaining in home or institutional quarantines,” he said.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu said the infection rate continues to decline consistently in the last four consecutive weeks in the division.

“Improved health services are being provided to the infected patients along with inspiring common people in abiding by the health directives to further prevent the spread of COVID-19 infection in the division,” he added.
