Rajshahi records lowest COVID-19 cases in a day

RAJSHAHI, Sept 28, 2020 (BSS) – The division recorded the ever lowest COVID-19 cases in a day as a total of just 49 persons were found infected since its outbreak with 298 recoveries afresh today, said an official report here.

The total number of COVID-19 infected patients in the division reached 19,933 amidst detection of the new positive cases in three districts of the division on Sunday.

Of the total new positive cases, the highest 32 were detected in Bogura followed by 11 in Pabna and six in Rajshahi district including three in its city, said Dr Gopendra Nath Acharya, divisional director of Health.

Among the infected patients, 17,829 have, so far, recovered from the coronavirus with 298 fatalities including 181 in Bogura and 44 in Rajshahi including 24 in its city.

Another 2,382 patients were undergoing treatment in designated hospitals in the division till this morning. Besides, 5,181 other patients were undergoing treatment in isolation units and of them, 4,355 have, by now, been released.

With the new detected cases, the district-wise break-up of the reported COVID-19 cases now stands at 4,931 in Rajshahi including 3,615 in its city, 775 in Chapainawabganj, 1,292 in Naogaon, 986 in Natore, 1,081 in Joypurhat, 7,592 in Bogura, 2,147 in Sirajganj and 1,129 in Pabna.

On the other hand, a total of 112 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while 82 others were released in all eight districts of the division over the last 24 hours till 8am today.

A total of 59,511 people had, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 to prevent community transmission of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Of them, 57,243 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their respective 14-day quarantine period in the division.

Following detection of the new COVID-19 cases, the respective houses of the infected persons in different areas under the division were placed on 14-day lockdown according to the health safety guidelines.

Dr Nath said the whereabouts of the persons, who came in contact with COVID-19 patients, were identified and they were asked to remain in home isolation so that the virus cannot spread further.

Utmost emphasis has been given to bring all the suspected people under quarantine, isolation and testing as these are being adjudged as important means of containing the community transmission of the virus, he added.
