COVID-19 cases hit 21,620 in Khulna division, 18,725 cured

KHULNA, Sept 26, 2020 (BSS) – With detection of 55 more positive cases in all 10 districts of the division on Friday, the total number of COVID-19 infected patients reached 21,620 while 18,725 have been cured from the lethal virus infection.

“The recovery rate now stands at 86.60 percent,” Assistant Director (Health) for Khulna division Dr. Ferdousi Akhter told BSS, adding that the total number of COVID-19 patients rose to 21,620 as 55 new positive cases were reported after testing 134 samples at the Khulna Medical College Libratory and two other COVID-19 laboratories in Khulna division in the last 24 hours till today’s noon.

Of the total new positive cases, the highest 16 were detected in Khulna, followed by 15 in Jashore, 11 in Kushtia, five in Bagerhat, three in Narail, two in Chuadanga and one each in Jhenidah, Magura and Meherpur in the division.

With the new detected cases, the district-wise break-up of the patients now stand at 6,312 in Khulna, 3,855 in Jashore, 3,238 in Kushtia, 1,902 in Jhenaidah, 1,414 in Chuadanga, 1,319 in Narail, 1,093 in Satkhira, 984 in Bagerhat, 902 in Magura and 601 in Meherpur, she added.

“Among the total 21,620 coronavirus infected persons, 2,308 are undergoing treatment at isolation units of different hospitals, 18,725 have recovered and 375 died while the rest are undergoing treatment in isolation at their respective homes in the division”, Dr. Ferdousi continued.

Talking to BSS today, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Rasheda Sultana said the number of total fatalities stands at 375 in the division with one death reported on Friday.

The district-wise break-ups of the fatalities stand at 95 in Khulna, 70 in Kushtia, 45 in Jashore, 33 in Jhenaidah, 32 in Chuadanga, , 30 in Satkhira, 22 in Bagerhat, 20 in Narail,15 in Meherpur and 13 in Magura under the division.

“The average casualty rate among all 21,620 COVID-19 positive cases now stands at over 1.73 percent in the division,” she mentioned.

On the other hand, a total of 72 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while others 87 were released in all 10 districts of the division in the last 24 hours till 12 noon today.

A total of 59,522 people had, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 to prevent community transmission of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Of them, 57,995 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their respective 14-day quarantine period and 2,308 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantine in the division.
