COVID-19 cases hit 21,565 in Khulna division, 18,609 cured

KHULNA, Sept 25, 2020 (BSS) – With detection of 51 more positive cases in all 10 districts of the division on Thursday, the total number of COVID-19 infected patients now hit 21,565 as 18,609 have been cured from the lethal virus infection.

“The recovery rate now stands at 86.29 percent,” Assistant Director (Health) for Khulna division Dr. Ferdousi Akhter said, adding that the total number of COVID-19 patients rose to 21,565 with 51 new positive cases were reported in the division after testing 152 samples at Khulna Medical College labratory and other two respective COVID-19 laboratories in the last 24 hours till this noon.

Of the total new positive cases, the highest13 were detected in Khulna, followed by nine in Jashore, eight in Kushtia, seven in Jhenidah, six in Magura, five in Narail, two in Chuadanga and one in Meherpur districts.

With the new detected cases, the district-wise break-up of the patients now stands at 6,296 are in Khulna, 3,840 in Jashore, 3,227 in Kushtia, 1,901 in Jhenaidah, 1,412 in Chuadanga, 1,316 in Narail, 1,093 in Satkhira, 979 in Bagerhat, 901 in Magura and 600 in Meherpur, she added.

“Among the total 21,565 coronavirus infected persons, 2,297 are undergoing treatment at isolation units of different hospitals as 18,609 have recovered and 374 died while the rest are undergoing treatment in isolation at their respective homes in the division,” Dr. Ferdousi continued.

Talking to BSS today, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Rasheda Sultana said the number of total fatalities now stands at 374 in the division while a single death case was reported from Khulna on Thursday.

The district-wise break-up of the fatalities are 95 in Khulna, 69 in Kushtia, 45 in Jashore, 33 in Jhenaidah, 32 in Chuadanga, 30 in Satkhira, 22 in Bagerhat, 20 in Narail,15 in Meherpur and 13 in Magura under the division.

“The average casualty rate among all 21,514 COVID-19 positive cases now stands at over 1.73 percent in the division,” she mentioned.

On the other hand, a total of 78 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while others 84 were released in all 10 districts of the division over the last 24 hours till 12 noon today.

A total of 59,450 people had, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 to prevent community transmission of the coronavirus (COVID-19). Of them, 57,908 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their respective 14-day quarantine period and 2,297 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantine in the division.
