COVID-19 cases rise to 11,774 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Sept 25, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases rose to 11,774 in Rangpur division where 30 new patients were reported after testing 376 samples at two COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur and Dinajpur on Thursday.

Health officials said the daily infection rate among the 376 samples tested on Thursday (September 24) stood at 7.97 percent in Rangpur division where daily infection rates were 8.51 percent on September 23 and 12.23 percent on September 22 last.

“During the last two days, the daily infection rate remains below 10 percent as the same continues to decline in the division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The district-wise break up of the 11,774 patients stands at 2,777 in Rangpur, 604 in Panchagarh, 1,041 in Nilphamari, 850 in Lalmonirhat, 890 in Kurigram, 1,114 in Thakurgaon, 3,343 in Dinajpur and 1,155 Gaibandha districts.

Since the beginning, a total of 67,338 collected samples were tested till on Thursday, and of them, 11,774 were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of 17.48 percent in the division.

“Meanwhile, the number of recovered patients rose to 10,505 with the healing of 51 more people on Thursday at the average recovery rate of 89.22 percent in the division where the recovery rate also continues to rise in the last three weeks,” Dr. Siddique said.

The average recovery rate of 89.22 percent is currently 5.10 times higher than the average infection rate of 17.48 percent in the division.

The 10,505 recovered patients include 2,438 of Rangpur, 541 of Panchagarh, 968 of Nilphamari, 780 of Lalmonirhat, 816 of Kurigram, 783 of Thakurgaon, 3,160 of Dinajpur and 1,019 of Gaibandha districts.

Talking to BSS today, Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Sultan Ahmed said the number of total fatalities rose to 212 in the division with one more death reported from Kurigram on Thursday.

he district-wise break up of the 212 fatalities stands at 48 in Rangpur, 72 in Dinajpur, 20 each in Thakurgaon and Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 14 each in Gaibandha and Panchagarh and nine in Lalmonirhat districts.

“The average casualty rate among the total 11,774 coronavirus infected patients now stands at over 1.80 percent in the division,” he said.

Among the total 11,774 COVID-19 infected patients, 97 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 10,505 patients and 212 deaths while 960 remaining in home isolations.

During the last 24 hours till 8 am today, 102 people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 138 others released in the division.

“Since the beginning, a total of 78,690 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 74,524 released and 4,166 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines,” Dr. Ahmed added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu said the declining infection rate and rising recovery rate are the improving trends in the COVID-19 situation in Rangpur division .

“To further reduce the COVID-19 spread, everyone should wear masks while remaining outside homes and abide by the health directives to check a probable second wave of spreading of the deadly virus during the upcoming winter season,” Dr. Lyzu added.
